“The intention behind the show...is to serve as a ‘love letter to our city from all of the different cultures and communities,’” Get Lit founder Diane Luby Lane tells Deadline.
The production takes audiences on a journey through neighborhoods including South Central, Boyle Heights, Chinatown, and Koreatown, honoring the city’s Indigenous roots and diverse cultural history.
Director Gina Belafonte explains that while the show brings these communities to life through imagery, music, and performance, “it’s really all rooted in the words.”
Featuring musical direction by Derrick Hodge and guest artists including Dante Basco, Sekou Andrews, Luis Rodriguez, Jason Chu, and more, the performance celebrates Get Lit’s Los Angeles roots and the power of poetry to bring communities together.
