Launching June 15, 2026, Get Lit’s Summer Intensives offer professional-level training in Filmmaking and Poetry & Performance for students ages 13–18, hosted at Los Angeles Center Studios and the Granada Building.
Get Lit's FILM LAB is a free program designed to inspire and cultivate the imaginations of young filmmakers. Over the course of 12 weeks, students will have the opportunity to hone their skills in both screenwriting and production, with poetry at the heart of their work.

Get Lit’s FILM LAB is a free program for young artists aspiring to create for film and television, that begins with poetry as an inspiration point. With courses in screenwriting and production, students can choose between two pathways:

june 17-21, 2024

Join us on a journey of inspiration at our dynamic week-long CREATIVE CAMP, happening June 17-21! Explore the worlds of filmmaking, screenwriting, spoken word, and music with endless opportunities for artistic expression. Guided by seasoned mentors, you’ll participate in craft workshops, create original works, and share your talent at our culminating showcase on June 21. Don't miss this chance to be part of an unforgettable adventure where creativity knows no bounds!

Explore the art of performance through Spoken Word poetry. This course will hone your skills on the stage through authentic expression, dynamic group work, and targeted feedback from industry professionals working in film, television, and theater. Using Spoken Word poetry, you’ll explore techniques for verbal, physical, and emotional performance that act as a basis for performance of all types: comedy, film, theater, and more.

screenwriting
12-week program

You will learn the fundamentals of screenwriting with an emphasis on character-driven stories and emotional arcs. Along with technical skills like formatting and professional writing software, you’ll develop your creative process and practice giving and receiving constructive feedback. Learn from guest speakers from the Writers Guild of America and get personal feedback on your script from professional screenwriters. Students leave this course with a completed short film script and one scene from their screenplay featured in a staged reading!

Production
12-week program

Master the principles of visual storytelling through this hands-on filmmaking program. In this course, you’ll learn how to write treatments and pitch ideas, create storyboards and shot lists, collaborate with other young filmmakers, and take a project from conception to completion. As you master the art of filmmaking, you’ll work with other artists and experts to produce your own poetic short film, to be screened in the lab’s student SHOWCASE!

POETRY & PERFORMANCE
4-week program

The Poetry Lab Summer Intensive immerses students in the art of poetry through Get Lit’s classic-and-response model, blending writing, performance, and collaboration. Students create original work, contribute poetry to films and multimedia projects, and culminate the program with a live showcase, leaving with professional performance assets for portfolios and college applications.

mixtape masterclass

Fine-tune your musical potential in this production course. You’ll learn the basics of songwriting & lyricism, voice control & flow, rhythm & rhyme, instrumentation, producing, and sound engineering while developing skills with recording equipment, Digital Audio Workstations, and live DJ techniques. This series of handcrafted workshops from seasoned music professionals will take you through the process of creating an album start-to-finish, culminating with the release of a class mixtape.

The Film Summer Intensive places students inside a working Los Angeles film studio to create professional-level films for college and film-school portfolios. With access to real sets, advanced equipment, and industry-led instruction, students collaborate across disciplines and graduate with two polished films, including a thesis project designed for competitive applications.

POETRY LAB
10-DAY program

Open to youth poets ages 13–19, this 10-day immersive camp invites participants to dive deep into Get Lit’s signature “Classic & Response” model. Students will be guided through close readings, writing labs, feedback circles, and performance prep, culminating in a live showcase for friends, family, and peers.Whether you’re new to poetry or a seasoned performer, this camp is designed to uplift your voice, sharpen your skills, and build lifelong connections through the power of Spoken Word.

Does Get Lit Summer Intensives offer scholarships or financial Assistance?

Yes. Get Lit Summer Intensives offer a limited number of need-based scholarships to support accessibility for students and families. Scholarships are awarded based on financial context, student interest, and program capacity.

Complete the form below to request scholarship consideration for Summer Intensives. This application should be completed by a parent or guardian. Submission does not guarantee an award.

What types of scholarships are available?

Types of scholarships available:

  • Full scholarships
  • Partial scholarships (50% off tuition)

If awarded:

  • Full scholarships cover full tuition for one session unless otherwise noted.
  • Partial scholarships require a $500 deposit within 10 days to secure placement
  • Standard payment policies apply to any remaining balance (if applicable)
What is involved in the scholarship application process?

Scholarship applications are based on self-reported information only - no financial documentation is required.

When will I know if my family has received a scholarship or financial assistance?

Because space is limited, submitting a scholarship application does not guarantee an award. Families will be notified of award beginning April 13th, 2026 on a rolling basis until scholarship funding is exhausted. Due to capacity restraints we will not be able to notify families if a scholarship has not been awarded.

How much time do I have to accept my scholarship award?

Scholarships must be accepted, including deposits for partial scholarship award, within 10 days of notification.
